“Thanks to financial support of Mr. Krupchak, we were able to complete years-long reconstruction of the monastery zvonnitsa and manufacture anniversary insignia. The money of the main benefactor of religious and cultural projects helped us to publish children book “The Life of St. Antonius”, a catalog booklet for exhibition “The Antiquities of the Siya Monastery”, and the monastery restoration sketchbook. It is a tremendous amount of work.”

The final celebrations of 500th anniversary of the Siya Monastery took place on December 20, 2020.

The Siya Monastery is located on the shore of lake Bolshoie Mikhailovskoie in Kholmogor District of Arkhangelsk Oblast. St. Antonius and his followers founded it in 1520 by assent of the Grand Prince Vasilii III. In 16–17th centuries, it was the largest religious center in the Russian North and the whole of Russia. But in 1923 its glorious history was suddenly ended. The monastery was shut down and the holy place was alternatively used by a labor commune, a kolkhoz, a sanatorium, a pioneer camp, summer houses, and other similar objects.

1992 saw the rebirth of monastery life. Many pressing issues of the monastery were resolved in the year of its 500th anniversary through charity donations. A significant gain was the main bell, which was donated to the monastery by Mr. Krupchak. The enormous bell weighing two tons was cast in Voronezh. It was lifted to the monastery zvonnitsa this August, during the anniversary celebrations. This event crowned the restoration of the Siya bell tower.

The main benefactors of all religious and cultural projects of this anniversary were JSC Arkhangelsk PPM, the Titan Group, JSC Sawmill 25, and the member of the Boards of Directors of the said companies, Mr. Vladimir Krupchak himself.

On St. Antonius Commemoration Day, which was celebrated on 20th of December, memorable anniversary insignia were awarded to members of the clergy and benefactors who contributed greatly to rebirth of this northern shrine. Three orders, more than 40 medals, and 30 badges were created by craftsmen of the renowned factory “Severnaia Chern” in Velikii Ustug at the expense of the benefactor. Each item was handcrafted using precious materials and bears a unique number. A true masterpiece.

Order No. 1 will be given to Kirill, Patriarch of Moscow and all Rus’. Thanks to the help of the primate of the Russian Orthodox Church, the Siya Monastery will get 110 million Rubles of federal money for restoration of its main shrine, the Trinity Cathedral of the early 17th century, which is the cultural heritage of the peoples of the Russian Federation.

The second order is awarded to Mr. Vladimir Krupchak for merit to the Siya Monastery of St. Antonius.

It is a tremendous amount of work.” Mr. Krupchak also fully financed the social and cultural project “Festive Tolls of Arkhangelsk in honor of the Anniversary of the Monastery” — from creation of bell suite to TV broadcast of the event" — said Aleksandr Barskii, manager of cultural projects at Arkhangelsk Eparchy.
